About Street Cats in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Besides the fact that, on average, a cat produces more offspring than a dog during its lifetime, the number of cats living on the streets of cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina is also influenced by the lack of laws defining responsible cat ownership. Additionally, most sterilization projects conducted in Bosnia and Herzegovina focus on dogs, leaving cats neglected, with the financial burden of sterilizations falling on volunteers.
Cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina do not have municipal shelters for cats, and the vast majority of municipalities do not allocate budget funds for projects aimed at reducing the number of stray cats.

A Safer Life for Street Cats Through Systemic Solutions

The WagWag team aims to provide at least one “hotel” for street cats in local communities where there is cooperation with field volunteers, starting in 2024. The goal is to offer shelter for 10 to 30 street cats, providing a safe place for feeding and capturing animals in need of veterinary care. Another objective is to create secure spaces for volunteers, who are often exposed to verbal attacks from irresponsible citizens, as well as vandalism of food and water containers and threats.

By building feeding stations with shelter capacity, enabling free sterilizations, and supporting volunteers, WagWag strives to establish effective micro-systems to reduce the number of stray cats in urban areas.

"Hotels" for Cats

Recognizing the challenges volunteers face due to a lack of safe shelters for street cats and the threats from irresponsible citizens, WagWag is working on constructing cat houses with feeding stations for volunteers.

Trap-Neuter-Return

Whenever possible, WagWag seeks to provide free or affordable sterilizations for street cats, helping reduce the number of stray cats in urban colonies cared for by volunteers.

Support for Volunteers

Through humanitarian events, WagWag raises funds multiple times a year to support volunteers with food or veterinary expenses for the large number of street cats they care for—both in the cat hotels and in other locations, including improvised shelters.

The construction of Cat Hotels is made possible thanks to donations from socially responsible companies and individuals.
